Thursday 26 October - Lunchtime

The international Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) was founded in 2004. Since its inception, the WCRP has been a core sponsor of SOLAS initiatives. SOLAS science is focused on understanding the role that ocean and atmosphere interactions play in regulating climate and global change and linking these with climate interventions and society. To do this, the SOLAS community studies the biogeochemical-physical processes and feedbacks across the ocean-atmosphere boundary over various time and space scales. SOLAS and WCRP share the goal of facilitating international collaboration to address key climate science questions. The inaugural SOLAS Early Career Scientist (ECS) Committee aims to voice the global ECS community’s unique insights and develop collaborations between emerging and established scientists on an international scale. One of the priorities identified by the ECS Committee is increasing engagement with Global South researchers, focusing first on the African research community. During this event, the ECS Committee will share our agenda, network with the emerging African ocean-atmosphere research community and lead discussions on how the ECS Committee, and SOLAS more broadly, can support the research objectives of emerging African scientists.
